Additions : 1970 Ulkebøl; 2007 Augustenborg (1970 Asserballe, Ketting, Notmark), Broager (1922 Egersund), Gråsten (1970 Gråsten-Adsbøl, Kværs, Rinkenæs), Nordborg (1970 Egen, Havnbjerg, Oksbøl, Svenstrup), Sundeved (1970 Nybøl, Sottrup, Ullerup), Sydals (1970 Hørup, Kegnæs, Lysabild, Tandslet)
Origin/meaning
The arms are based on a seal of the city, which is known from 1644, but the arms may actually be older. The arms show the Sønderborg castle, with the original three gates. The present colours were officially determined in 1921. The arms were not changed after the mergers in 1970 and 2007.
