Region : Galicia
Province : Lugo

Escudo de Castroverde

Official blazon

Cortado.

Origin/meaning

The castle in the upper half of the arms is the, still existing, castle of the Counts of Aldemira. The field is green as a canting element (the name means green castle). The lower half shows a lamb and a piece of bread. These are derived from the name Bolaño, or bread-sheep, the name of a part of the municipality. They also symbolise the resistance of the inhabitants of the castle against besiegers.
