BRUCK AN DER MUR

State : Steiermark
District : Bruck-Mürzzuschlag (until 2015 Bruck an der Mur)
Additions : 2015 Oberaich

Wappen von Bruck an der Mur

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The city of Bruck was not granted arms; Emperor Maximilian I granted to the citizens of Bruck the right to stamp a brand into ironware of their own produce (date of this grant April 6, 1503). This brand follows heraldic rules. It contains a stone bridge over a river, two towers and the Styrian panther. Bruck of course means Brücke (bridge). The city was a wealthy trading town, important because of its bridge over the river Mur and its castle which belonged to the Landesfürst, the Duke of Styria. Bruck is very near to the old mining region in Upper Styria.
