Origin/meaning
Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Green and yellow are the colors traditionally used by Military Police units. The key indicates command, control and guardianship of the 42d Military Police Brigade. The double-head fasces denote magistrate’s authority and the unit’s combat mission. The sword represents military readiness; the silver gray ring of the black disc symbolizes the brigade’s lineage to I Corps.
Distinctive Unit Insignia: Green and yellow are the colors used for Military Police. The portcullis represents the unit’s ability to provide security wherever assigned in peace time and in war. While the sword denotes the effective protection provided by the unit, it also simulates a pivot and symbolizes command and control. The two clasps and the links forming the chain signify the strength of the Military Police battlefield functions while the scroll, forming a circle with the chain, refers to the strength of integrity in every action of the unit and its members.
The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was authorized effective 16 October 2004. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the 42d Military Police Group on 23 July 1969. It was redesignated with description and symbolism updated, for the 42d Military Police Brigade effective 16 October 2004.
