The crest alone was used until 1999 as the symbol of the Preparatory School that fed into Scarborough College, Lisvane. The mural crown represents the links between the schools and the town of Scarborough, the owl represents knowledge, and the laurels represent victory.
 
The motto, Pensez Fort (rendered as Pensez Forte in the unofficial arms used before 1963) are usually translated as "Think Boldly/Think Bravely"
