Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on April 21, 1934 (London) and confirmed on November 16, 1992 (Canada).
The arms show symbols for Scotland (thistle), England (rose), Ireland (clover/shamrock) and Canada (beaver). With Canadian supporters and crest.
The design is (much) older as 1934 and showed the two supporters sitting, as seen on an image on the Bank's main building. As this was not acceptable, the bank received the above arms in 1934.
The motto is that of the city of Montreal.
