Wapenspreuk: IN
CHRISTO GAUDIUM.
Origin/meaning
The red shield with the silver cross refers to the Archdiocese of Utrecht, as the (Roman Catholic) Archdiocese has used this since medieval times. The inescutcheon shows a canting bear (for Bernd) as a replacement for the lion in the arms of the Province of Zeeland. In addition a silver rose for Yorkshire has been added. The Archbishop has lived part of his life in Zeeland and Yorkshire. The rose also symbolises the connection between the Anglican and Old Catholic churches.
The motto In Christo Gaudium means 'In Christ joy'.
