Canton : Bern

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The quartering symbolises the fact that Bellmund was one of the 12 quarters of the district Nidau. The sun is a canting element, the name is supposedly derived from Belenus, the Germanic god of the sun. The crosier represents the monastery that was founded in the village in the 12th century. The arms are used since 1941.

Literature : Wappenbuch des Kantons Bern, 1981.
