Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on February 6, 1966.
The area of the municipality was for a long time a possession of the Benedictine Monastery Ettal and the Rottenbuch Abbey. The upper part of the arms symbolises this fact. The eagle is derived from the Ettal arms, and is the imperial eagle. The abbey was founded by Emperor Ludwig of Bayern in 1332. The red beech is canting for the Rottenbuch Abbey (Red = Rot, beech =Buche), and has been used by the Abbey since the 15th century.
The base of the arms shows a bath, a canting element for the name (Bad = bath = spa/resort).
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
