Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 2014.

The wavy bend refers to the old Zwin river after which the village probably was named. The windmill is a typical landmark of the village, the wheat refers to the agricultural character of the area, as well as milling the grain in the windmill.

The oak tree refers to the local forests and bushes, but also to the fact that Count Christian Eberhard of Ostfriesland issued a decree in 1697 that newly wed couples had to plant an oak tree. This tradition is still retained in the area, trees are planted in the Hochzeitswald (wedding-forest).

The colours are derived from the arms of the [Samtgemeinde Holtriem]].
