SANKT JOHANN BEI HERBERSTEIN
State : Steiermark
District : Hartberg
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on 28 June, 1971.
The cross in chief is the attribute of St. John the Baptist, patron saint of the municipality. In base, the arms of former landowners are alluded to: The Seeblatt ("sea-leaf", or linden-leaf) of the von Wildon family of the 12th century, the cross of the Teutonic Order, and the chevron of the counts of Herberstein, who have held the lands since the 17th century.
The wavy bar stands for the Feistritz river.
