Origin/meaning

Shield: Crimson is the color traditionally used for Maintenance, the original designation of the unit. The crossed quill and micrometer simulate a brace and imply support; the quill also symbolizes the command, administration and supervisory aspects of the organization's mission, while the micrometer alludes to its precision and technology. The annulet further suggests a wheel and refers to mobility and a continual round of services. Crest: The heraldic fountain is a symbol of water. The rays are adapted from the Philippine State arms. Combined with the Indonesian designs, they allude to the islands of the Philippines, New Guinea and the surrounding area, where the unit served during World War II. The two kris commemorate New Guinea and Leyte. The sun rays honor the Presidential Unit Citation
