EL PONT DE BAR

Region : Catalonia
Province : Lleida

Pontbar.png

Official blazon

Escut caironat: de sinople, un pont de 5 ulls d'argent. Per timbre una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

The arms have been officially granted on January 12, 1996.

These arms are canting: they show a "pont" (Catalan for "bridge"). In fact, the ancient bridge of Bar (11th century) had only one arch, and it was carried down by a flood of the river Segre in November 1982; the five arches of the bridge shown in the arms symbolize Aristot, Els Banys de Sant Vicenç, Bar, Castellnou de Carcolze and Toloriu, the five main villages in this young Pyrenean municipality, created in 1970 by the union of the previous ones of Aristot and Toloriu.
