Bishop of Burlington |
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop. However, in this case as an Auxiliary Bishop the personal arms were already impaled with the diocesan arms, but in reversed sequence. Normally Auxiliary Bishops do not impale personal arms.
The personal arms show a Celtic cross and 4 fleur-de-lis, these symbolise his two grandmothers who were French (fleur-de-lis), while my grandfathers were Irish (cross).
