Origin/meaning

The blue field, silver horseshoe and the crosses are loosely based on the arms of a Polish Abramowicz family and symbolise here the last name of the bishop. The heart refers to the love of the bishop for the Polish people of Chicago and the Polish refugees worldwide.

The book refers to his previous position as official of the Matrimony in Chicago.

The chief again shows the flag of Poland. The crown represents Our lady of Czestochowa, the national patron saint and shrine of Poland. St. Mary was also the patron saint of the Our lady of the Lake seminary where the bishop studied.
