Origin/meaning
The oldest known image of the arms dates from 1636, when the church appears on the seal of the town. The seal is dated 1510, but no older examples are known. The present arms were devised in 1949 and are based on the old seal. The church as shown in the arms is the St. Gallus church, that was burnt down in 1773.
