Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on April 16, 1943 and confirmed in 1974.
The arms are based on the oldest known seal of the city, known since 1682 and show the initials of King Carl XI under the royal crown. Originally the seal showed a single C, later the doouble C was introduced. King Carl XI founded the city as an important naval base in the 17th century.
