Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 14, 1924.

The head of a deer is a canting element, as the city's name derives from "Brunda" meaning "The Head of a Deer", inspired by the shape of Brindisi's natural harbour (the port is naturally divided in two parts, West and East Coves). On the head of deer there are the Roman Columns, very important monuments in Brindisi which are the symbol of the town.

The Military Cross of Honor was brought to the city: During the 1st World War, Brindisi was bombed approximately thirty times by enemy forces; from its port, Italian naval ships and submarines left for 207 missions of war.
