Origin/meaning

Plateiliai received city rights on February 24, 1792 and at the same time received as emblem the image of St. Peter. St. Peter was one of the patron saints of the local church. The use of the arms lasted only a few months.

After the independence of Lithuania the old symbol was re-adopted and two keys were added, the symbol of St. Peter. The arms were officially granted on March 8, 1997.
