The town of Ruhmannsfelden belonged from 1295-1803 to the local Cisterician Abbey and the town thus had no own seal or arms. In a roll of arms from 1726 the arms of the abbey at the time were shown as arms for the city. In 1819 the arms of the abbey were officially adopted and granted to the city. However, already in the early 19th century the colours were misinterpreted as the blue and silver diamonds of Bayern, instead of the silver and red of the Cistercian Order. These colours remained in use and have not been changed since.
