Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Lithuania - Lietuvas Heraldika |
KUPIŠKIS
County : Panevėžys
Origin/meaning
The first arms of Kupiškis were created in 1970, based on the 19th century arms of the Kupiškis district of the time.
The district arms showed in the upper half the arms of Kaunas province, an obelisk, and in the lower half three bundles of flax.
In the new arms the obelisk of Kaunas was replaced by two rivers, the Kupa and the Levuo, as Kupiškis is situated at the junction of the two rivers.
The arms were abolished later that year, but recreated and officially granted on December 8, 1997.
