BIERBEEK

Province : Vlaams-Brabant
Additions: 1977 Korbeek-Lo, Lovenjoel

Wapen van Bierbeek/Arms (crest) of Bierbeek

Official blazon

Gedeeld 1. in sabel een leeuw van goud, geklauwd en getongd van keel 2. in zilver een dwarsbalk van keel.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 13, 1987.

The arms are based on the seal of the Bierbeek council from 1366, which has been used until the 18th century. The lion is taken from the arms of the Duke sof Brabant, who acquired the village in 1284 from the Lords of Bierbeek. The arms of the latter showed a red bar which is shown in the other half of the present arms.

The arms were already used non officially by the municipality before 1987.
