Origin/meaning
The crenellated division line is taken from the Cuzco city arms, which shows a single tower.
The double-headed eagle is taken from the arms of Lima where he was born and carried out his studies. The star represents St. Mary as the Virgin Star of the Sea (Stella Maris) ad is also a representation of charity - reminding us that God is love (1 John 4,8)
In sword in the lower half symbolises St. Michael, taken from the arms of the city of Piura, the place of the first pastoral activities of the archbishop. The small shield shows the beautiful flowers of the Apurimeño valley, which includes the city of Abancay, where he was auxiliary bishop. The green field symbiolise hope and service.
