Origin/meaning
The red chevrons are taken from an English Laurenson family and symbolises the last name of the bishop. The open book and chalice refer to Christianity, the waves to the Waikato river. The boat is a symbol for St. Peter as well as HMS Endeavour. The blue colour is a symbol for St. Mary.
The Celtic cross behind the shield refers to the Irish heritage of the bishop.
