Escudo de azul, uma roda de azenha de prata, realçada de negro, movente de um pé de água ondado de prata e azul; em chefe, à dextra, uma gaiola de ouro carregada de uma coroa aberta do mesmo e à sinistra um livro aberto de prata, realçado de vermelho e carregado de uma coroa de louros verde. Coroa mural de prata de três torres. Listel branco com a legenda a negro, em maiúsculas: “ CORTES “.
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on May 30, 1994.
The water wheel refers to the irrigation wheels from the Lis river that were used in the parish. The golden gate with crown refer to the local patron saint, Our Lady of Gaiola. The book and the laurel wreath refer to the literacy and culture of the people of Cortes.
