Origin/meaning
Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Cobalt blue and golden yellow are the colors used for the Army Chemical Corps. The green dragon symbolizes fire and chemical destruction, whose strength lies in its tail. The three barbs of the dragon’s tail symbolize the areas of chemical, biological and nuclear warfare in the unit’s overall mission and capabilities.
Distinctive Unit Insignia: Blue (cobalt) and gold (golden yellow) are the colors used for the Army Chemical Corps. The benzene ring was suggested by the insignia of the branch. The legendary dragon, symbol of fire and chemical destruction, whose strength lies in its tail, is green (unity of blue and yellow) to represent the organization’s mission and alludes to Greenville, South Carolina, the unit’s place of activation. The three barbs of the dragon’s tail symbolize the areas of chemical, biological and nuclear warfare in the unit’s overall mission and capabilities. The motto “CHEMISM” means chemical force or action. This dedicates the unit to the tradition of being prepared to use whatever force or action necessary for the national defense.
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 16 March 1988. The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 415th Chemical Group on 28 December 1979. It was redesignated effective 16 September 1987, for the 415th Chemical Brigade
