CHÂTEAUBRIANT

Département: Loire-Atlantique

Blason de Châteaubriant/Arms (crest) of Châteaubriant
Official blazon
French Parti: au 1er d'azur à trois fleurs de lis d'or et au bâton de gueules péri en bande, au 2e d'hermine plain ; sur le tout de gueules semé de fleurs de lis d'or.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms are a combination of the arms of the Condé family (see also Dombes, Enghien-les-Bains) and Bretagne (ermine field). The small shield shows the arms of the Lords of Chateaubriant. Until 1250 their arms showed golden pins on a red field, but after the battle of Mansourah King Louis IX approved the use of the royal fleur-de-lys instead.
