Escudo de Castellnou de Bages

Official blazon

Escut caironat: de sinople, un lleó d'or lampassat i armat de gules. Per timbre una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

The arms have been officially granted on 26th April 1989.

The golden lion is the traditional arms (at least since the 19th century) of the village, that developed around the castle of Castellnou (10-11th centuries), now in ruins. This castle belonged originally to the barons of Balsareny (until 1187) and later to the bishops of Vic (1296-1812).
