====Origin/meaning====
===Origin/meaning===
The arms are of typical medieval design, showing a gate with two towers and the arms of the local lord, in this case the arms of the Counts of [[Henneberg]]. The city became a possession of the counts in the 12th century. The oldest known seal dates from 1561 and shows the same composition. The combination most likely is older, dating from the 13th or 14th century, but no seals from that time still exist.
