Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1942 and officially registered in 1974.
Oskarshamn has its name after King Oscar I, and therefore the first field in the arms displays the monogram of Oscar I. In the other fields there are symbols for shipping (the anchor), trade (the staff of Mercury) and wealth (the cornucopia). Oskarshamn was a town, and therefore entitled to use the mural crown on its arms.
