GARGŽDAI
County : Klaipėda
Municipality : Klaipėda
Lithuanian | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
Gargždai received city rights on February 24, 1792, and at the same time the arms were granted, a sword lying across a wreath of laurel. It symbolised the victorious battles and peace. The arms were abolished after a few years when the Lithuanian State ceased to exist. In 1970 the arms were again discovered, but banned already later the same year. In 1989 the city council recreated the arms as shown above.
The arms were approved by the Lithuanian Heraldry Commission in 1989, and officially granted on December 2, 1997.
