Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
VIECHTACH (VIT)
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on September 13, 1961.
The left part shows a canting pine tree (Fichte), which also symbolises the many forests in the district. The mountain on which the tree stands is derived from the arms of the formerly important Niederalteich Abbey. The pale in the arms symbolises the Pfahl-rocks, a typical series of rocky hills in the district. The pale is shown in the diamonds taken from the arms of the Lords of Nussberg. The tower is a symbol for the formerly many castles in the district.
