Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on April 11, 1978.

The arms combine the lion of Nassau and the cross of the State of Trier with a golden chalice of St. Goar. The village belonged approximately 450 years to the State of Trier until 1802. From 1802-1866 it was part of Nassau. St. Goar is the local parish saint and is showsn in the local church with this typical chalice as its symbol.

In 1956 it was proposed to use only the chalice as arms for the village :
