Origin/meaning
The blue cross of St. Andrew, found in the Arms and Flag of Nova Scotia, evokes the name Scotian. The red maple leaf, charged on a roundel representing water, symbolizes that this is a Canadian ship. The Scottish Motto translates as “Self-reliance through service”.
The Canadian Heraldic Authoriy confirmed the Blazon of the Badge on December 15, 2008.
