525TH FIGHTER SQUADRON, US AIR FORCE
History: Constituted 309 Bombardment Squadron (Light) on 13 January 1942. Activated on 10 February 1942. Redesignated: 309 Bombardment Squadron (Dive) on 3 September 1942; 525 Fighter-Bomber Squadron on 23 August 1943; 525 Fighter Squadron on 30 May 1944. Inactivated on 31 March 1946. Activated on 20 August 1946. Redesignated: 525 Fighter-Bomber Squadron on 20 January 1950; 525 Fighter-Interceptor Squadron on 9 August 1954; 525 Tactical Fighter Squadron on 1 October 1969. Inactivated on 31 March 1992. Redesignated 525 Fighter Squadron on 18 September 2007. Activated on 30 September 2007. Combat in the Mediterranean and European Theaters of Operation (MTO and ETO), 2 July 1943-2 May 1945. Provided air defense of western Europe, 1946-1992. Participated in USAFE and NATO exercises and training to remain proficient in air superiority skills. First squadron to receive the F-15 aircraft. Deployed to Persian Gulf in support of Operations Proven Force and Provide Comfort, January-May 1991.
