Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1991, but have a longer history.

The arms are based on the old seal of the city (known since 1587), which showed a bird on the antlers of a deer. Later seals all show the same composition.

The arms were first granted on October 3, 1936.

These arms were used until 1975 when the town was incorporated into Tychy. After regaining independence in 1991, the arms were restired in different colours.

Although the bird has been described as a pelican, it has always been shown more like a swan. The meaning of the animals is not known.
