NIEDERGRÄFENHAIN

State : Sachsen
District (Kreis) : Leipzig (1994-2008 Leipziger Land, until 1994 Geithain)
Incorporated into : 1994 Geithain

Wappen von Niedergräfenhain/Arms (crest) of Niedergräfenhain
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were designed in 1946 by the then mayor. Unfortunately I have no colour image.

The upper half shows miner's tools and a wheat-ear as symbols for the local stone quarries and the agricultural character of the village. During DDR times the upper half also symbolised the local animal feed company, the working class villagers and the local tree nursery.

The lower half shows the railway bridge in the village over the Eula-valley. The bridge was built between 1869-1872.
