English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted in 1998.
The type of vessel represented is called a "varino", used in old times for the transportation of goods (such as vegetables, fruits, fish, and salt) from Sarilhos Pequenos, located on the south margin of the Tagus River, to Lisbon.
The anchor is a reminder of the town's tradition in ship building and ship repairing, an activity still ongoing today in the town's shipyard "Estaleiro Naval de Sarilhos Pequenos".
