Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 1st, 1945 and again on November 6, 1986.

The both arms are nearly identical, the difference is that on the old arms (see image below) the leaves of the reeds did not originate from the roots of the plant as in the present arms.

The arms are canting, reeds (Riet) on points (Eggen). The colours are those of the canton.
