Origin/meaning
Terny belonged historically to the county of Soissons which used a red lion in gold as arms. The other half represents Sorny and shows the arms of thet he lord of Coucy Enguerrand VII, who made Sorny a separate parish in 1368.
The inescutcheon shows the monument erected in memory of General Pierre des Vallières killed on May 28, 1918 on the territory of the municipality while inspecting the front of his division which tried to stop the offensive launched by the German army.
