Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on June 18, 1968 and confirmed on November 14, 1996 and August 27, 1999.

The arms show the legendary golden deer, which symbolises the two main branches of the economy of the Magadan region, gold mining and reindeer breeding. The lower part symbolises Magadan as the sea gate of Kolyma.
