Origin/meaning
Acoring to Ojibwa legend the Tribes migration from the Atlantic Seaboard to the Lake Superior was governed by the great Megis os sea-shell. When it rose from the Water in reflected the Sun on it glossy surface and good times was ahead. But when the Megis sunk back into the Water bad times was ahead and Migration was to come. Under one of these the Oijbwa come across Wild Rice, which become Staple Food for the Tribe.
