HMS HAWKINS, ROYAL NAVY

Coat of arms (crest) of the HMS Hawkins, Royal Navy
Official blazon
English Blue; a demi-moor proper bound and decorated gold arising out of wavelets silver and black.

Motto: Nil desperandum

Origin/meaning

From the arms of Sir John Hawkins (1532-1595) knigthed for helping disperse the Armada in 1588. The Year 1916 was included as part of a shortlived idea to include the launch date of the First of Name. It was abandoned in 1920. The badge was approved on 5 May 1919.
