Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on August 15, 2008.
The blue of the shield represents the lake. The chevrons allude to the forests on both sides of the lake and the harvest of which is an important component in the economy of this region. The trout is a reference to the fishing both in the lake and in the Cowichan River, recreations for which the community is famous.
The coronet refers to the timber industry. The eagle is a bird found in many parts of the province and honours the town’s natural wildlife.
The cougar and stag also honour the natural wildlife of the area. The flower, a white fawn lily in its pink variety, is an official floral symbol of the town.
The motto means “Abundance in the shadow of the mountains.”
