Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on March 27, 1991.

The arms are based on the arms of the arms of the Guignecouort family, known from the 12th and 13^th century. These arms showed a shield with a maze. The original colours are not known and it was decided to choose silver and black. The free canton shows a tree. This tree is taken as a symbol for a typical local habit. The village for a long time had no church and thus also no cemetery. The local dead were buried in a neighbouring village. On the way to the cemetery it was the habit to carve a cross in a large tree close to the road. This tree became known as the tree of the dead. The tree and the habit do no longer exist, but the tree was added to the arms.
