Origin/meaning

The mining settlement near the tin-ore mines was founded at the turn of the 13th century by Slavko of Osek. During the reign of succeeding members of this family Slavkov acquired its first town privileges.

On July 1st, 1547, Ferdinand I awarded Slavkov the Statute of a Royal Mining Town. Together with the endowment of extensive privileges, Slavkov was granted the above arms.

The first quarter shows the Bohemian lion, which is divided in silver and red. The meaning thereof is not known. I have no information on the second quarter.

The third quarter shows the lion of the Princes of Plavno, who ruled the town in the mid 16th century. The fourth quarter shows symbols for mining and agriculture.
