Origin/meaning
The three crosses moline are used to signify by employing the symbol of the State of Rhode Island, the anchor, that the diocese of Providence encomapasses all of the State it was to serve. The crosses, in number of the Trinity, are rendered in the colors of water because that plays an important role in the life of the ´Ocean State´. The colors also are for Blessed Virgin Mary, in her title Our Lady of Providence, is patroness of the diocese and See city.
