Origin/meaning :
The arms are known since 1727, and were designed when Nibe received city rights.

The arms show three herring, as herring fishing was the main occupation at the time. To distinguish the arms from other arms with three fish, (Rønne, Rudkøbing, Åbenrå) the middle fish was turned.
