PONT-DE-VAUX
Département : Ain
Official blazon
- (fr) D'azur au croissant d'argent.
Origin/meaning
A crescent was already used as a symbol for the town in 1394. The meaning of the crescent is not known. In 1696 Hozier mentioned different ams, see below, which wer simply showing a bridge (pont) under a chief of France, indicating an important Royal city.
For a long time both arms seem to have been used simultaneously, but since the 1990s only the arms with the crescent are being used again.
