LA GARRIGA

Region : Catalonia
Province : Barcelona

Escudo de La Garriga

Official blazon

Escut caironat: d'argent, una garric arrencat de sinople; el peu d'or, 4 pals de gules. Per timbre una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 3, 1986.

Canting arms: they show a branch of "garric" (Catalan for "oak"). The royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon (four red pales on gold) are there because the village belonged to the count of Barcelona. In 1357 it was declared a "street of Barcelona" (a legal term according to which the town had the same privileges as the Catalan capital city).
